BIOGRAPHY

Sydney Dyck is a graduate student in the department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Canada. Sydney was the 2020 recipient of the Natural Hazards Center Undergraduate Student Paper Award for her paper “Only A Matter of Time: The Impacts of the Cascadia Subduction Zone and Colonialism on Indigenous Communities in Vancouver Island”. Sydney was recognized for this achievement at the 2020 Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop, which she also attended. Her research interests include disasters, trauma, Indigenous rights, and psychosocial therapeutic interventions.
