BIOGRAPHY

Michael Michaud is a Ph.D. candidate in the Disaster Science and Management Program. While at Lyndon State, Michael participated in the Verification of the Origin of Rotation in Tornados EXperiment 2 (VORTEX2) field experiment in 2010. This experience opened his eyes to the human impacts of severe weather firsthand. After graduating, Michael spent several years working within the higher education system. He earned his Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Utah in 2016. His Master’s research focused on administrator response and student involvement during campus crises.

At the DRC, Michael has participated in several research projects including reviewing National Weather Service – Service Assessments and making recommendations to better collect social science data, studying public perceptions of severe weather warning systems, and collecting local impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Delaware community. During the summer of 2021, he was a William M. Lapenta Intern with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Weather Program Office analyzing community modeling with a social science perspective. He has previously served as the International Association of Emergency Managers – UD Chapter president and treasurer and is currently the Biden School Student Association president. Michael is also an active member on the American Meteorological Society Board for Societal Impacts.
