BIOGRAPHY

Nesar Ahmed Khan is a Ph.D. student in the Disaster Science and Management program. He completed his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. During his bachelor’s, he had the opportunity to complete his internship under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Government of Bangladesh. He closely interacted with government administrators and policymakers and learned how government social safety net programs contribute to combating disasters. As part of his duties, he conducted visits, monitored, and evaluated diverse development projects managed by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. These endeavors encompassed social safety net programs, the construction of cyclone shelters, and housing initiatives for vulnerable populations. His responsibilities entailed analyzing challenges and discrepancies in these initiatives, as well as identifying issues faced by the general public. During his bachelor’s and master’s, he worked on several publicly funded research projects related to disaster and disability, flood volunteerism, and climate change. His research interests include disaster resilience, risk perception, emergency decision-making behavior, policies related to disaster management, and climate change.
