BIOGRAPHY
Abbey Hotard received her PhD in Coastal Management & Science at Texas A&M University at Galveston. Before this, she graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Coastal Environmental Science and earned a Master of Marine Resources Management degree from Texas A&M University at Galveston. As a life-long Gulf Coast resident herself, Abbey’s research interests include climate adaptation; coastal retreat; environmental justice; and public policy for hazard risk reduction. Her dissertation work used mixed methods of an original survey and open-ended interviews to identify social determinants and tradeoffs associated with household. Between defending her master’s thesis and beginning her PhD program, she served as a student volunteer with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and a Science Policy Fellow through the National Academy of Sciences Gulf Research Program hosted at the EPA Gulf of Mexico Division.
