Pat Young Award
For Most Innovative Use of the E.L. Quarantelli Collection
The Disaster Research Center is pleased to announce the establishment of the Pat Young Award for Most Innovative Use of the E.L. Quarantelli Collection. Established for an initial term of 10 years, each year one award of $100 will be given to an individual who has used the E.L. Quarantelli collection in a way that demonstrates creativity, advancement to their discipline, or advancement to practice and community well-being. Awards will be given based on work conducted or newly completed in the calendar year. In some special circumstances, it may also be awarded for long-term and sustained use.
The E. L. Quarantelli Resource Collection contains the world’s most complete collection on the social and behavioral science aspects of disasters. The collection was started by Professor Quarantelli, sociologist, DRC co-founder, and pioneer in the field of disaster science. The Collection is open to both interested scholars and agencies involved in emergency management. Pat Young served as the Resource Coordinator for the Collection from 2004-2018, providing invaluable support for disaster-impacted communities seeking evidence-based guidance, practitioners looking to learn more about theory and practice, and scholars from around the world advancing the field. Nominations are welcomed for each calendar year and due on the last day of the year, beginning December 31, 2018. Nominations should include a CV or resume, a brief description of the use of the collection and contribution of the work (no more than one page), and any supporting material. If the award committee believes that no nominations are appropriate for the award, then a decision can be made to make no award. Submissions should be sent tocepalmer@udel.edu with the subject heading Pat Young Award Nomination.
