Host an Intern or Practicum Student

Several of our programs include a practicum or internship component.  These are designed to be meaningful for the organization as well as for the students. During the placement, students connect their experiences and prior coursework through weekly reflection pieces. Some students stay in the Mid-Atlantic area while others have found wonderful opportunities around the country. Interested in hosting a student practicum? Contact

Share Your Experience

Each semester our faculty and students discuss emergency management research, current issues, and trends in our classes, seminars, and at IAEM@UD functions.  We are always interested in having our alumni speak live or virtually and have a wide range of opportunities.  For example, you could: discuss your career or current position,  describe an interesting program you are running, present a working paper, discuss a new research project, lead a discussion about some cutting edge issue or problem in the field. These are just a few of the possibilities.

Spring 2016 speakers included Josh Kelly, Delaware Public Assistance Officer and a Natural Hazards Planner for the Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) ; Anthony Cario speaking about International Disaster Risk Reduction at the United Nations; and Scott Graham, Emily Fortuna and Joe Prewitt from the Mid-Atlantic Red Cross. All speakers present in the Disaster Research Center conference room unless otherwise coordinated.

Check DRC Events for upcoming DRC & IAEM@UD presentations and activities!

How can I become a guest speaker?

Email with your name, contact information and a brief statement of what you're interested in speaking about and a DRC faculty member will contact you to discuss upcoming opportunities.
