NOVEMBER 29, 2016
Dear DRC Friends and Alumni,
Today is #GivingTuesday! In the U.S., #GivingTuesday marks the beginning of the “season of giving.” As we near the end of our 53rd year, we honor the spirit of the holiday season to reflect and celebrate another year of successes in research, education and service with many thanks owed to you, our friends, alumni and supporters.
DRC’s mission is threefold: to advance the state of the art in disaster research and its scientifically guided practice; to educate the next generation of disaster science scholars and informed practitioners; and to create, gather, and disseminate disaster knowledge in dynamic and responsive ways. In doing so, we create “the DRC experience” - one in which students advance as scientists and project managers and prepare for responsible positions in academia and in the policy and practice sectors.
As part of this experience, graduate research assistants are collaborators and contributors on papers and presentations. Every year DRC sends students throughout the US and internationally. They present their research at conferences and workshops and conduct field studies on pressing topics in disaster science.
In order to fulfill this mission, we ask that you make a donation to DRC this giving season. Each week until the end of the year, we will highlight how contributions made to DRC directly support our student-focused mission.
