His dissertation adopted a historical perspective to investigate the role of political, economic, and sociocultural processes in the construction of disaster vulnerability on Madeira Island (Portugal). Nuno also earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Geography (University of Lisbon) and a master’s degree in GIS & Science (New University of Lisbon). Prior to moving to the US, Nuno worked 4 years at the University of the Azores (Portugal) on projects focusing on disaster management and small island sustainability. He is now working with James Kendra and Tricia Wachtenford on the project “EAGER: Risk Objects in Public Health Crisis: an exploratory investigation of stigma, role-triage, and cautionary measures”, which is funded by the NSF. He has several peer-reviewed publications and has presented at conferences.

social vulnerability, community resilience, sociocultural adaptations, disaster preparedness, health emergency response, community-based disaster management, and GIS-based modeling.

Research Interestsnmartins@udel.edu/Documents%20Bios%20CVs/MARTINS%2C%20V.N.%2001.2020%20CV.pdfMartins, V.
