    Biography

    Doctor Sarmiento is a public health physician from Colombia. He has walked a long journey in the fields of preparedness and response to disasters and public health emergencies while working in Colombia with the Red Cross and the National Institute of Health. His experience in austere environments has taught him to use knowledge in simple, practical, and creative ways. He holds a Master in Disaster Medicine from the University of Eastern Piedmont (Italy) and the Free University of Brussels (Belgium), a Master of Public Health from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem (Israel), and a specialization in general epidemiology from El Bosque University (Colombia). 

    He has continuously been a lecturer of "health in disasters" courses in different undergraduate and graduate programs in Bogotá, Colombia.

    Research Interests

    Hospital and public health preparedness; community emergence, organization, and improvisation; crowdsourcing;  and risk communication.
